Invitation to a projected reception for President Theodore Roosevelt, October 3, 1902; Roosevelt did not attend, being in Washington that day for the anthracite coal-strike conference. On this specific date, President Roosevelt was confined to a wheelchair while recovering from a severe leg injury suffered during a trolley accident the previous month. While in Washington, D.C. (at the temporary White House), he assembled a historic conference between coal operators and union leaders to successfully resolve the Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902.
