[CULINARY MANUSCRIPT] [HANDMADE] Hilda's Recipes; Gourmet Club

1960s. Ring_bound. 23 X 17 cm. This labor of love was the work of over ten women who formed the Gourmet Club. Of Austrian, Swedish, and Danish descent, these women may have known one another since childhood. The result is a ring-bound, indexed cookbook, largely handwritten with a handful of typed pages interspersed. Each chapter opens with a hand-drawn illustration by club member Wanda Kinman. It appears each woman contributed her own pages, which were then collected and distributed among the members before the volume was assembled as a whole, with individual recipes credited to their respective contributors.

Pasted to the verso the front cover are two black-and-white photographs of the group, each name handwritten beside its corresponding face. The club's members are identified as: Bonnie Nixon, Edna Whitson, Alice Norlund, Wanda Kinman, Marge Robinson, Mary Ellis, Ruth Anderson, Jeanne Van Wylie, Gertrude Hansen, and Lynelle Olive.
