[COMMUNITY COOKBOOK] OPERATION COOKIE LIFT COOKIE BOOK

Sun Valley, CA: Evelyn's Multicopy & Printing Service, c.1967. Spiral bound wraps. 98 pages. 22 x 14 cm. Recipes furnished and attributed to community members. Operation Cookie Lift was a project started in January, 1966 by the Burbank High P.T.A. for Burbank High Schools alumni serving in the armed forces. By 1967 over 3300 pounds of cookies had been shipped to Vietnam in old film cans from the studios. Many people worked together to make this project a success including PTA mothers and their daughters, Gold Star mothers, Letter Girls, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Horizon Clubs, and many more. Doris Vick, a former WAVE member, was the driving force in this effort (WAVES was created in 1942 to bring women into the Navy as enlisted personnel and officers in shore-based roles, freeing men for sea duty). Pages lightly toned. Covers toned with two pieces of plastic combs cracked. Blue illustrated wraps, white plastic combs. Very good. Item #4977
