This address, associated with the Astor House, opened in 1836 and was financed by John Jacob Astor. Regarded as New York's first great luxury hotel, it also functioned as a commercial arcade with a mix of in-house services such as Bell's Pharmacy, along with a barbershop, tailors, boot makers, and even an oyster cellar.
