[COMMUNITY COOKBOOK] A BOOK OF RECIPES; And Mimeographed by The Commercial Department of the VAUGHN UNION HIGH SCHOOL
Vaughn, Washington: 1931. Staplebound. 82 pages. 21 x 14 cm. Recipes attributed to community members. From bread, pastry and cakes, to salads, meats, dumplings, soup, pickles, beverages, preserves and candy - the members of the library association brought their best to this project. Two recipes are handwritten onto the rear free end paper and laid in is a recipe for Hungarian Goulash - written on the back of an unused check from BREMERTON TRUST & SAVINGS BANK. Interior lightly toned, covers lightly rubbed.
The Vaughn Library Hall is the only original meeting hall still standing on the Key Peninsula. The Hall began life in 1889, a few months before Washington Territory would become a state, when the young men of Vaughn decided to celebrate the 4th of July with a dance. The building itself was created in 1892 and expanded over the years. The first high school on The Key was built up the hill from the Hall and they utilized the Hall for dances, plays and other ceremonies until the high school gym was built. Tan heavy cards. Very good.
