[REPURPOSED] [CULINARY MANUSCRIPT] Checking Account Book made into a personal cookbook
New Hampshire: c. 1913-1950. Hardcover. 110 pages. 8 x 20 cm. Originally a 19th-century checking account ledger, this volume was repurposed by Amber M. Hall (1897-1958), first for its intended financial use and later as her personal recipe book. Hall recorded numerous recipes in her own hand, complemented at some point - either by her or a relative - with pasted-in clippings from newspapers or magazines. The manuscript includes a broad range of dishes such as Johnny Cake, Sour Milk Biscuit, Dough Nutts, Vegetable Meat Loaf, Lemon Pie, and New England Clam Chowder, among others. Hall graduated from Business College and served with the War Department in Washington, D.C., during World War I. Covers rubbed. Brown marbled papered boards. Good. Item #4701
