This community cookbook was published at the height of social and anti-war activism in Greenwich Village, reflecting the grassroots, pacifist, and countercultural spirit of the community. The Greenwich Village Peace Center was know for its involvement in peace efforts and progressive causes, and the cookbook is one of several culinary projects that linked food with activism during this period.
