Ontario, Canada: 1910's -1940's. Hardcover. Handwritten cookbook dating from c. 1910 until after 1940. Newspaper clippings reveal the location as Ontario, Canada and most likely handed down from mother to daughter or generation to generation. Truly a "Colossus" containing hundreds of recipes. With many handwritten recipes and remedies including methods for diabetes and cancer (liquid cure for internal cancers, and another salve for external cancers). There are several receipts to cure to poison ivy, and one to ease a woman's "change of life". A full section of pasted in recipes from various newspapers of the day. A large amount of laid in material including brochures, an original paper fish cooking bag (not used), and many recipes written on the back of various pieces of ephemera. Recipes include pickles, jams, marmalades, puddings, wines, breads, stews, soups, salads, dressings, punch, cordials, and remedies. Covers are heavily rubbed and creased. Pages are toned and creased.
