[MANUSCRIPT] Handwritten Cookbook

NY/NJ area: c. 1930's. Hardcover. 39 pages. This handwritten cookbook is well loved - our author USED this book over and over. We can date the book from the use of Spry, which is vegetable shortening that was a competitor of Crisco. It is interesting to note that the author does not use a specific temperature when cooking and baking but applies the old-fashioned terms: "quick oven" or "slow oven" - although her last couple of recipes call for a specific degree. We can assume our author used this book for at least 10 years and either came around to the updated language or acquired a new stove that was more precise. A few printed recipes are pasted in. Recipes include: Patriot's Birthday Cake, Molasses Drop Cakes, How to Can Wax Beans, Port Wine, Rye Wine, Rice Wine, and many more. Interior soiled (as it should be!), and covers rubbed. Quarter bound, "Journal" with lined and numbered pages. Good. Item #4523
