"Health First—Happiness Follows", this 1895 marketing slogan was created by Charles William Post, the founder of Postum Cereal Company Ltd., the founder of Grape Nuts Cereal. In this pamphlet the illustrations by Shirley Kite illuminate a story written from the standpoint of maturing wheat stalks as they are about to be harvested. They talk of looking forward to retirement as straw stacks. They ponder the future and hope the plans for their baby wheat seeds will work out well. The wheat seed children in turn discuss among themselves how they plan to thrive using the food packed into their Lunch Boxes, the starch and sugar of their bodies, that will give energy that will carry them until the sun and the Earth provide the additional food to grow into tall, strong wheat stalks.
