[COMMUNITY COOKBOOK] STATESMEN'S DISHES AND HOW TO COOK THEM; PRACTICAL AUTOGRAPHIC RECIPES BY Mrs. BENJAMIN HARRISON

Washington DC: NATIONAL TRIBUNE, 1890. Wraps. 222 pages. 24.5 x 15 cm. Compiled by the First Lady at the time, Mrs. Benjamin Harrison. With more than two-hundred recipes from women "Prominent in Official and Social Life at The National Capitol." Some notable contributors: Mrs. Isabella Beecher Hooker, Mrs. John Wanamaker, Mrs. Jeremy R. Rusk, Mrs. Melville W. Fuller, and many more. Each recipe is followed by a reproduction of each authors signature. Caroline Scott Harrison was the first 'first lady' to have a Christmas tree in the White House, the first to have electricity in the White House, and was instrumental in starting the White House china collection. This book is very fragile due to the paper used at the time. Many pages are uncut. Covers, spine, and back cover heavily chipped. Front cover has previous owner's stamp, too faint to make out. [BROWN 404]. Cream wraps. Good. Item #4474
