[VAUDEVILLE] [WOMEN] Press Book - The Morak Sisters; Blue Bond Composition Book No. 19

1918-1921. Wraps. Unpaginated [24 pp.] 25 x 20 cm. A "memorabilia" book featuring a collection of printed and illustrated accounts of the globetrotting Morak sister's vaudeville act. The Morak Sisters were a Belgian vaudeville aerial and dance troupe that toured Canada and the United States in the late 1910's. They were part of the vibrant vaudeville scene during the early 1900s, which featured various acts including musical performances, comedy sketches, and acrobatic displays. This book follows the sisters act from the these cities: Syracuse, NY, Buffalo, NY, Hamilton, Canada, Montreal, Canada, Fort Worth, Texas, Waco, Texas, Memphis, Tennessee, New Orleans, Louisiana, and many more stops along the way. In Chicago, Illinois, January 3, 1919, the Sisters even shared the stage with the now, well known Marx Brothers. The articles are pasted in with a handwritten description of the city and state. This is the description from their stop in New York on March 10, 1919:

"Four girls, bearing sufficient resemblance to each other to pass as sisters, offered a novel acrobatic act which took one of the biggest hands of the bill at this house, despite the fact that they closed the show. Their start was exceptionally good and took the house by surprise. The curtain rose on the full stage, with the girls suspended in mid-air from a carousel-like contrivance which whirled them around while they held themselves with their teeth only. The entire offering was taken up in this manner, with the girls assuming various poses in mid-air, while the apparatus was twirling them around at a fast rate..."

The troupe was sometimes billed as the "Four Morak Sisters" or "Morak Sisters & Co." Three of the sisters were named Therese, Louisa, and Anna, with the other possibly named Sadie. The sisters were manages by Fernand Morak. By 1927 the act was reduced to three sisters. Pages lightly toned. Three articles laid in. Green wraps. Very good. Item #4445
