[UKRAINIAN] [WOMEN] SILVER WREATH JUBILEE COLLECTION UNION OF UKRAINIAN WOMEN OF AMERICA; JUBILEE ALMANAC, 1925-1950

Philadelphia: America, c. 1950. Publishers side-stapled. Unpaginated. [50 pp]. 25.5 x 20.5 cm. This publication marked the 25 years of Association's concerted effort to champion the numerous projects these Ukrainian American Women were spearheading. Beginning in the mid-1800's and continuing through World War II, immigration from the Ukrainian area to America brought in more than 500,000 people. These women were attempting to keep some of their heritage while embracing their new lives in the United States. They helped promote Ukrainian Folk Art and Handicrafts, reached out to organizations in their native land to help those wanting to immigrate to the US and other countries, and worked with the Canadian Chapter to find common goals. Besides the stated goals within this text, there are numerous group photos of women from chapters around the country including: Philadelphia, Detroit, Bronx, Woonsaket (RI), Newark, Chicago, Apron (OH), Rochester (NY), New York (NY), Ozone Park (NY), and Pittsburgh. The text is mostly in Ukrainian although the final third of the book contains advertisements from various Ukrainian-American businesses from Rhode Island to Chicago - some in english and others in Ukrainian. The art featured on the cover is by Ukrainian artist/poet Sviatoslav Hordynsky. Interior clean, covers lightly rubbed with some scratches to the silver illustrations. White and silver illustrated wraps. Very good. Item #4295
