[REPURPOSED] [COOKERY] Atlanta Homemaker Scrapbook

Jasper City, Georgia: 1918. Hardcover. Unpaginated. Young Wilhelmina Kirby (1908-1986) was only 10 when she took this Georgia County Account book and repurposed it as the place to store all her favorite recipes. One can only guess how this came into her possession, but she made use of it throughout her life. In 1927 we find Wilhelmina married and living in Atlanta. Some of the pages that are not fully covered with recipes and Wilhelmina uses the original notations to practice her cursive. Recipes for spice cake, plum preserves, marshmallow icing sit alongside pamphlets that have been pasted in, such as an early French's Mustard pamphlet. Remedies such as "how to cure hiccoughs" are jotted down. Handwritten recipes include Water Melon Sweet Pickle, Pumpkin Pie, and Heigdou (a cabbage dish). Recipes laid in as well. The condition is substandard but the contents are nice glimpse into the domain of a southern homemaker at the beginning of the 1900's. Marbled paper covered boards. Poor. Item #4218
