[LIQUOR] [PROHIBITION] San Francisco, Cal. - WE HAVE NO BRANCH HOUSES
San Francisco: Jaffe & Co., c. 1915. Staplebound. 12 pages. An unusual trade catalog with a glimpse at the contrasting liquor laws at the turn of the century. Jaffe & Co. were originally located in Washington State but the liquor laws kept changing until the State Prohibition shut down their Seattle operation in 1915. The company moved to San Francisco and ran a retail and mail-order business from there until the enactment of the national Prohibition laws. The pamphlet highlights the move from Seattle to San Francisco with instructions on HOW WE DO BUSINESS & PERMIT's FOR WASHINGTON. It seems you were permitted to receive 2 quarts of liquor or 16 large bottles or 32 small bottles of beer every twenty days as a Washington resident and fairly similar laws for Oregon residents. These shipments were sent by Steamer - with price listings on the last page of the pamphlet. Brochure includes all the various liquors, wine, and beer sold including color lithograph illustrations. Pages fairly clean with a few closed tears to the last two pages. Color illustrated wraps. Very good. Item #3903
