Edna Lewis was born in Freetown, a rural community in Orange County, Virginia, founded and named by freed slaves after the Civil War. Lewis developed a deep and abiding love for the rich, sweet gifts of orchard and field, woodlands, wild game and all things fresh from the farm with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Lewis met Evangeline Peterson while catering in New York and agreed to give her cooking lessons. At Miss Peterson's suggestion, Edna wrote down some of her recipes which led to this collaboration. Dust wrapper lightly soiled. Boards lightly foxed. Interior crisp and clean. This copy was gifted to the owner from Norman Ives, the artist who designed the dust wrapper.
