[SEXUALITY] THE SEX SIDE OF LIFE; An Explanation for Young People

New York: Self Published, 1928. Staplebound. 31 pages. With New Diagrams and Revisions. Mary Ware Dennett originally wrote this pamphlet, in 1915, in response to her eldest son's questions related to sex. Focusing on realistic descriptions of intercourse, Dennett attempted to change the shameful and fearful narrative surrounding the discussion of sex. The pamphlet offered a straightforward description of the sexual and reproductive nature of humans - most of the vagueness and misleading information that was being viewed by the public was due to the federal and state obscenity laws such as the Comstock Act - which limited the amount of detail that could be published about sex education. This revised (thirteenth printing) includes illustrated diagrams of the Female and Male organs with scientific explanation. Dennet would spend much of her life fighting to get equality for women and lobbying to change the Comstock act. Pages and wraps toned and lightly soiled with some closed tears. Partially disbound but complete. Blue wraps. Good. Item #3688
