[ALS] [CULINARY] Typed letter from Elizabeth David
1960. Loose_leaf. 2 pages. 25 x 20.5 cm. Typed letter from culinary historian and author, Elizabeth David, to Mrs. Johnson of Bathwick HIll, Bath, Great Britain. David received the letter from the Editor of Vogue, and as was the custom (before the dreaded internet), Ms. David took the time to write a lovely letter to Mrs. Johnson concerning the confusion between Pâtés and Terrines. "The French have gradually begun to drop the pâté part and just refer to these mixtures as terrines - at any rate on menus and in charcuterie shops... Sorry to sound so pedantic, but what it all boils down to really is that the terms pâté and terrine have become interchangeable." David goes on to advise Mrs. Johnson as to where one shop and find a good French glazed earthenware terrine - and then adds a handwritten "p.s." note about another such shop. The letter is edited by hand, adding the accents after the letter had been typed. Previously folded. Cream paper, typed and hand written. Very good. Item #3558
