Poison in Your Pots and Pans; Aluminum and Plastic are Dangerous

Emmaus, PA: Rodale Books Inc., 1955. Staplebound. 63 pages. "The housewife who prepares food in aluminum or plastic kitchenware may be slowly poisoning her family," reads the blurb on the back of Rodale's work. This book is a harsh and unwielding in his expose of the aluminum cookware fad taking over the country using case studies of sick individuals and a basic understanding of chemistry. Beginning with a "Chinese Proverb" on the nature of fear and consumerism, this book comes from J.I. Rodale, the man who coined the term organic farming. Though he maintains this lasting legacy, he also is an extremely controversial figure in the sustainable agriculture and health movements, for his bold claims, seemingly unbacked by science, as can be read about in his 1970 book "Happy People Rarely Get Cancer."
