Hinds' Honey and Almond Cream
Portland, ME: A.S. Hinds, c.1890's. Staplebound. 16 pages. (4 pp.) 14 x 9 cm. Hinds' Honey and Almond Cream was formulated in the late 1870's by Aurelius Stone Hinds in Portland Maine while working in a drugstore - it was a huge success and was bought out in 1907 by Lehn & Fink, makers of Lysol. The highly decorated pamphlet covers demonstrates the Japonisme that became poplar in the late 1880's. Pamphlet concentrates on the new outdoor activities women were participating in. Illustrated throughout. Top third of cover at spine split with 2 cm. closed tear. Interior clean with last four page's of testimonials unopened. Color illustrated lithograph wraps. Very good.
