A rousing sermon given by Nicholas P. Tillinghast (1817-1869), an Episcopal clergyman and son of Joseph Leonard Tillinghast, (member of the House of Representatives, and Speaker of the House from May 1829 to October 1832), during very difficult times in our Nations capital. First page contains the "Correspondence" from the church's committee imploring Tillinghast to "furnish for publication a copy of the eloquent and appropriate discourse delivered by you on the recent Thanksgiving-day appointed by the President." Tillinghast humbly obliges, "I yet feel bound to place it at your disposal." Exterior wraps lightly soiled, creased, with 1 cm. chip. Interior clean except for last page toned. Item #840
