Pamphlet. Fold out menu. 16 x 9 closed, 16 x 27 opened. Owner's signature on cover with "August 1937" also written in pen on cover. Opened in 1929, Topsy's Roost was a "chicken shack" restaurant located just north of Playland at the foot of Sutro Heights, in the Richmond District at the western edge of San Francisco. Also a popular nightclub with a live orchestra, Topsy's was decorated to look as if the patrons were sitting in ramshackle chicken coops. This souvenir menu is illustrated on both sides including cocktails, wine, chicken, biscuits, desserts. "RULES of the Roost" explained along side a photo of a packed dance floor. Off-color Illustrations of a African American girsl dominate the cover and rear of the pamphlet. Two 2 cm. spots where the text was pulled of the paper in middle of menu.
