[TEXTILES] Sample Book - Fancy Needlework for Trimming Dresses

c. 1890. Sewn binding. 7 pages. 19 x 14 cm. Thirty-three distinct and skillfully hand stitched trim samples - each sewn onto a handmade cloth book. During the Victorian era, women were taught the sewing skills for both plain and fancy work - plain sewing was used to mend simple articles of clothing, while fancy work was more decorative and used to embellish clothing and furniture. This sample book was most likely a means to show prospective clients a variety of trim that could be used for their project. Red cloth hand-sewn book. Very good. Item #3540
