Boston: George Coolidge, 181. Hardcover. 128 pages. 11.5 x 7 cm. Includes fold-out music: The Song of The Free: with lyrics and sheet music. Words by George Coolidge, music contributed for the Lady's Almanac. A curious combination of date book, patriotic messaging, atlas, recipes, remedies, history, essays, and civil war chronology. This particular copy was annotated each month with a handwritten line at least once and sometimes twice each month recording wages paid to "Bridgette Ryan." Other interesting topics include an essay about the difference between the "civilized society" and "Indian Tribes" in regards to "SLEEPING WITH THE MOUTH OPEN." The author states that the reason Native Americans live longer than white Americans is their method of training their children to sleep with their mouths closed thereby keeping toxins out of the lungs. Boards lightly rubbed and soiled. 1 cm. closed tear to binding edge of sheet music. All edges gilt. Blue decorated boards, front and spine panel stamped in gold. Very good. Item #3438
