Rumford, RI: Rumford Chemical Works, 1932. staplebound. 64 pages, 12.5 x 18.5 cm. The Rumford Common Sense Cook Book includes pages of recipes, cooking terms, and instructions. One page informs the homemaker of how to bake “by temperature” as a helpful tidbit to those who had just acquired a gas stove. Throughout are various black and white illustrations. The book is compiled by Lily Haxworth Wallace. It ends with an advertisement for Rumford Complete Cook Book (the elongated version of this book), which can be “MAILED FREE FOR 10 Cards from ONE pound cans of Rumford Baking Powder.” Laid in is one newspaper clipping from the Chattanooga Daily Times, August 4th, 1934, with baseball news on one side and cake recipes on the other and one folded and ripped typewritten letter seemingly from W.C. Campbell, Commercial Manager, dated Sept. 1st, 1932, with a handwritten recipe covering the back. Creasing across cover, one 2 cm tear and one 4 cm tear on cover, signs of wear along edges, some staining inside from inlain pieces. tan printed wraps, good. Item #3053
