c. 1920. 36 pages. 28 x 21.5 cm. Typed manuscript recalling the life of the vanishing whaling industry in New Bedford, MA. The author makes reference to his father who at one point in his career was a New Bedford master whalemen, a captain of the Bark Canton. The author, unknown, pays tribute to Longfellow and his poem The Secret of The Sea. The whaling vessel, Canton, built in 1847, survived for years through the brutal world of whaling only to be wrecked off the coast of a pacific island. Pages toned with some creasing. Cream paper, hole punched with cloth reinforcement rings. Good. Item #2554
