Kansas: Barbara Clagett, 1988. First Edition. Ring_bound. 74 pages. 23 x 16 cm. Signed & inscribed by author on verso of cover. Viola's mother was the cook for the Clagett farm and her father was the "house man". Born in 1911, Viola spent her childhood helping her mother prepare vegetables, churn butter, wait tables, wash dishes, do house chores and take care of the Clagett's young son. That young son was the father of Barbara Clagett, the Editor of this book.
The introduction to this cookbook is written by Barbara Clagett. Clagett describes her childhood and her close relationship with Viola: "She was a second mother to me; someone whom I could go to with any problem or childhood hurt." At the urging of Barbara Clagett, Viola put her recipes in writing - recipes Viola describes as "good, country, home cooking."
