Nashville, TN: Mahon & Taylor, Photographers. Cards. 16.5 x 10.75 cm. c. 1890's. Cabinet Card on white mount with studio's signature and address embossed in gilt. Photographer's information printed on verso noting: "instantaneous portraits of children a successful specialty". In the late 1890's, the National Union of Textile Workers made successful attempts to organize southern mill workers. The southern textile industry relied heavily on child labor. Between 1880 and 1910, approximately a quarter of all textile workers were children under the age of 16. Edges rubbed, handwritten numbers written on verso. Cabinet Card on white mount. Very good.
