White River Junction, VT: c. 1920's. 46 x 16 inches. This colorful and animated canvas emulates the dreamlike quality of Maxfield Parrish. The sleepy town of White River Junction became a railroad boon town with the help of the transportation revolution that brought the junction of rail lines at the intersection of the Connecticut and White Rivers. Smith & Son Inc. began their confection and cracker enterprise in Dartmouth NH and moved to White River Junction in 1871 and in 1889 claimed that the factory annually produced almost 20 million crackers as well as 400 varieties of candies and chocolates. Canvas creased with light staining. Professionally sewn onto acid free mat board attached to foam core. Cream canvas, color silk screen with metal grommets at corners. Very good. Item #1655
