[MENU] The Grand Pacific Hotel; Dinner

Chicago: 1873. Loose_leaf. 24 x 15 cm. Broadside dinner menu from one of the two celebrated hotels built in Chicago, after the Great Chicago Fire. Dinner service was a sumptious event with a multitude of choices including soup, fish, boiled: ham, tongue, turkey, and oysters, cold: ham, corned beef, lamb, side dishes: compote of pigeons, calves' feet, escolops of veal, stewed mutton, numerous vegetables, pastry, and dessert.

The Wine List on the verso includes "American Wines" featuring "Kelley Island" which was a local wine, grown on the island, located in the western basin of lake Erie. Established in 1865, Kelley Island Wine Company produced champagne, Catawba and Reisling wines. Owner's signature at bottom of menu. Separate meal times listed for "Children and Nurses". Handwritten additions plus two items crossed out. Creases discernible otherwise crisp and clean. Cream colored paper. Very good. Item #1102
