Van Antwerp (Commander-in-Chief) and Anna Mae Lockner (National Auxiliary President). Cover: Reception and Banquet Tendered by the 1939 National Encampment Corp. - HOTEL SOMERSET, Boston, Mass. Wednesday Evening, Feb. 15, 1939 in conduction with 40th National V.F.W. Encampment.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) - an organization of U.S. war veterans, who, as military service members fought in wars, campaigns, and expeditions on foreign land, waters, or airspace - held conventions yearly (VFW National Conventions used to be called encampments). This menu for the reception and banquet was held at the beginning of 1939, while tensions escalated overseas and the U.S sentiment was anti-interventionist.

Guests include: Bennett Champ Clark - U.S. Senator Missouri, Leverett Saltonstall - Governor of Massachusetts, Maurice J. Tobin - Mayor of Boston, and many more. Dinner featured Filet Mingon, Delmonico Potatoes, dessert. Some foxing and stains with previous fold mark throughout the middle. Cream illustrated cards. Good. Item #2456
